Yoga on Paxos

Classes take place on a shady terrace in the charming garden of a villa not far from the sea and the pretty harbour of Loggos. Paxos, the smallest of the Ionian islands, is an unflawed gem lying a short sea journey to the South of Corfu. Seven miles long by two miles wide, the island’s east coast is dotted with small coves whose clear water is perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Walk among the olive groves in May, before it grows too hot, and discover the old Paxos, where goats wander among abandoned stone houses, and the ground is carpeted with wild flowers.

The word Yoga derives from the Sanskrit, meaning to join or union. The union referred to is the union between one’s true self and the universal (being “at one with the world”), and also to a joining between one’s body, one’s thinking and one’s soul. When we practice on Paxos, touched by the clear water, clean air and simple life, this union becomes palpable.

Which week?

1-8 May 2018:  Zoë Reason & Zoë Hope

Suitable for active practitioners keen to explore the work dynamically and in more detail - some experience with Iyengar practice is essential but relative beginners are welcome  -  stages towards more challenging asanas will be offered.

Classes will take place on the terrace at The Captains House  -  spectacular views looking out over the tiny harbour of Logos and across the Ionian sea towards mainland Greece.

18 - 25 May 2018:  Zoë Reason

This week will be less challenging physically than the earlier week but is not suitable for beginners.  We will assume familiarity with the practice and those comfortable working with equipment.  The nature of the terrain in Paxos means that students need to be sufficiently physically active and sure footed to negotiate steep and uneven footpaths.

Where will I stay?

1-8 May:  You will stay in traditional Greek studios and apartments shared with other yoga students.  All the accommodation is self catering and within walking distance of Loggos and of the villa where the yoga is taught.  Loggos, a graceful old fishing port, is the smallest of the three main villages on Paxos.  With its pastel-shaded buildings huddled around the harbour, it combines relative remoteness with an adequate range of facilities.

18-25 May:  You will stay in a self catering villa with a pool shared with other yoga students.

Generally, most students have dinner in one of the tavernas dotted around the harbour, but the village also has three small supermarkets and a bakery. All the accommodation has a kitchen and a living area – with somewhere outside with a view to gaze at as you eat your breakfast.
