What do I need to know before a class?

Do wear comfortable clothes – preferably something that lets me see your knees (leggings and shorts are ugly but ideal).

Do be prepared to work in bare feet.

Do bring a sticky mat and a blanket (other equipment will be provided).

Do tell me at the beginning of a class if you have a cold, backache or are feeling under the weather for any reason.

Do tell me if anything hurts and stop doing it! Not all pain is bad – but until you’ve got more experience you won’t be able to distinguish between work in the pose and potential damage you may be doing.

Do fill in the medical questionnaire and send it to me or, if you’ve not ticked any boxes, bring it to your first class. If you have any problems it won’t necessarily mean you can’t attend the class but some poses may have to be modified. It’s important that the asanas (asana means posture) are suitable for you – yoga is powerful and we want it to have a positive not a negative effect.

Do come to class with an empty stomach – leave 2 hours after a snack and 4 hours after a full meal. And avoid drinking large amounts of liquid in the hour before a class.

Please don’t wear perfume or strongly scented deodorant to class.

Please do be on time for a class.

Do let me know as soon as you think you might be pregnant.

And finally – if you have any questions: please ASK! Either during the class, catch me at the end or give me a ring during the week.

The word ‘holistic’ is very fashionable nowadays. The word ‘holistic’ contains the word ‘whole’, which is the true meaning of ‘healthy’. When there is wholeness of body, mind and self, this wholeness becomes holy. Holy means divine, and without divinity you cannot truly speak of holistic practice or holistic medicine.
